No Driver’s License And Eluding The Police Justifies A $10,000 Bond In Manatee County?

A Sarasota man who allegedly
ran a stop sign and then tried to elude the police was jailed on a $10,120 bond Tuesday night. Braxton T. Morgan was charged with
driving without a license and fleeing to elude. He led police on a chase that took him into
Manatee County where sheriff’s deputies eventually stopped the 21-year-old.

Moran reportedly threw a brown paper bag out his car when
authorities tried to pull him over after running a stop sign. There is
no information in the Bradenton.com article on whether that bag was
ever recovered. There were two passengers in the car with Morgan but
both were released from custody.…

Distracted Driving Law Could Face An Uphill Battle In Florida

We just blogged about a distracted driving law nearing passage in Iowa and now there is more news concerning the status of texting and driving in Florida. According to a story on the Sarasota Herald Tribune website, the proposed ban on texting while driving in Florida could face an uphill climb considering how long it took lawmakers to finally pass a law requiring Florida drivers to wear seat belts.

Florida is the minority when it comes to laws against distracted driving. According to the story, 19 states ban text messaging for all drivers and 28 ban text messaging in certain situations and for certain drivers. Even school bus drivers in Florida are not banned from text messaging while driving. In order to try and get something passed, a version of the bill that only deals with text messaging and does not result in points on a Florida driver’s license is being discussed. The issue will be discussed when session begins March 2.…

Two Pedestrians And A Bicyclist Killed On Tampa Bay Roads In Just 12 Hours

A rash of fatal car accidents involving pedestrians and bike riders struck the streets of Tampa Bay in the last 12 hours. Two pedestrians and a bicyclist were all killed by cars beginning Tuesday night. Of the three fatalities, two are being investigated as criminal acts and the drivers are expected to be charged with hit and run. Authorities are still searching for two drivers for leaving the scene of an accident.

The rash of traffic fatalities began Tuesday evening when a driver in Pinellas County ran over a pedestrian and then
left the scene of the accident. Witnesses say the vehicle was a black 4-door Infiniti sedan. At 3:10 a.m. another hit and run took place with a pedestrian fatality only this one occurred in Tampa on Dale Mabry. Officers found the grill of a Volkswagen with blood on it at the scene of the deadly crash. The last accident involved a man riding his bicycle near East Hillsborough Avenue. According to Bay News 9, there are no charges anticipated in this case.…

Pasco County Woman Awaiting Extradition From NY Due To Fatal Motorcycle Crash Last Year

Deborah Terrero, formerly of Hudson, Florida was arrested in New York this past weekend on a fugitive from justice warrant issued in December. The 53-year-old woman is accused of causing the death of a passenger on the back of a motorcycle in a crash that took place April 5. According to TampaBay.com, Terrero has a long history of traffic tickets and citations in Florida. She has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident in 2006, she has received five speeding tickets and had her license suspended several times for failure to either appear in court or pay her traffic tickets.

Terrero could possibly be extradited for this latest traffic incident. According to the FHP the former Hudson resident pulled her SUV out onto U.S. 19 in front of a motorcycle driven by Kenneth L. Dillon. Dillon tried to avoid the collision but Terrero allegedly pulled into the center lane causing the collision. Dillon’s passenger was thrown from the motorcycle and died. Dillon suffered serious injuries. …

Woman In Electric Wheelchair In Critical Condition Following St. Pete Hit-And-Run

More details are emerging in a St. Petersburg hit and run case that left a handicapped woman in critical condition. Police are searching for a large SUV that is either blue or black that hit 55-year-old Shirley Anne Lavine as she crossed a street in her electric wheelchair. Police are trying to track down the driver who left the scene of the accident.

According to a story on TBO.com, two witnesses have come forward to give additional details to police on the traffic accident that occurred December 8 on 16th street south. The witnesses described the vehicle they saw but were unable to see a driver due to dark tinted windows. Lavine remains in critical condition at St, Petersburg’s Bayfront Medical Center.…

State Senator In Hit And Run Case Blames Failed Alcohol Breath Test On His Toothpaste

A state senator who was on probation for a hit-and-run accident was sentenced to a year in jail following a failed breath test. Part of Anthony Gallucio’s probation was he could not drink alcohol and would be required to submit to random testing. After failing a breath test, he blamed the results on toothpaste and not alcohol.

The judge in the case did not buy Gallucio’s excuse and sentenced the state senator to jail. The failed alcohol breath test came just days after Gallucio accepted a plea bargin in his leaving the scene of an accident case,…

Tampa School Bus Driver Cited For Running A Red Light In Monday Morning Crash

Two Tampa elementary school students were treated for minor injuries following a school bus crash that was caused by the bus driver running a red light. The students were headed to Phillip Shore Elementary according to Tampa’s 10 Connects when the bus ran a red light at 17th Avenue and 21st Street where it collided with a car.

The driver of the car was taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries and the two injured students were released to their parents following the accident. The rest of the children were transferred to another bus. The bus driver has received a traffic citation for running the red light.…
