What Happens After You Refuse A DUI Test In Sarasota?

Can I still drive after the police take my license away? Am I going to jail? How much will a Sarasota DUI cost me? Florida Traffic Ticket News – North Florida Law Enforcement Issues Tons Of Traffic Citations Over Labor Day Weekend

There were plenty of traffic citations written in Florida on Labor Day weekend. The number of DUI arrests in Florida was not terribly high.

DUI Manslaughter Trial Begins In North Port

Ronald Judson Smith is on trial for eight charges stemming from an alleged drunk driving accident that killed a 7-year-old girl. According to police, Smith was driving with a suspended license from a previous DUI when he ran a red light and crashed into a Ford Mustang. Smith is facing charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI with property damage, possession of illegal prescription drugs, driving while suspended, failure to submit to a breath test and other charges.

According to the Sarasota Herald Tribune, witnesses to the fatal accident saw Smith throw beer cans and prescription bottles into the woods near the scene of the accident. The Port Charlotte man is facing up to 67 years in prison if convicted of all the charges. Sarah-Dian Heineman died 10 days after the crash.

Florida Traffic Ticket Total Nears 37,000 For Statewide Click It or Ticket Campaign

The Florida Highway Patrol released their final number of Florida traffic tickets written during their two-week Click It or Ticket campaign. A staggering 36,858 traffic citations were issued yet only 6,550 of those were for seat belt violations, which was the focus of the campaign. The percentage of tickets issued for seat belt violations during this seat belt enforcement campaign was just over 17%.

The FHP also reported 311 arrests for DUI and driving under the influence of drugs resulting from the stops. According to the FHP’s own release there were more than 10,000 Florida speeding tickets issued and an equal number of motorists assisted.…

Hernando County Teacher Charged With DUI Following A Stop For Speeding

Ramia Vasquez was allegedly speeding on a Spring Hill street when Hernando County deputies pulled her over.
Upon the traffic stop the 37-year-old school teacher reportedly smelled of alcohol, had trouble keeping her balance and also had bloodshot eyes. She was later arrested for DUI and taken to Hernando County Jail.

The drunk driving arrest  took place after Vasquez failed field sobriety tests according to the arresting officer. The woman gave a breathalyzer sample at the jail and according to TampaBay.com she had a blood-alcohol content of 0.92 and 0.99. She posted bond and was released from jail.…

State Senator In Hit And Run Case Blames Failed Alcohol Breath Test On His Toothpaste

A state senator who was on probation for a hit-and-run accident was sentenced to a year in jail following a failed breath test. Part of Anthony Gallucio’s probation was he could not drink alcohol and would be required to submit to random testing. After failing a breath test, he blamed the results on toothpaste and not alcohol.

The judge in the case did not buy Gallucio’s excuse and sentenced the state senator to jail. The failed alcohol breath test came just days after Gallucio accepted a plea bargin in his leaving the scene of an accident case,…

Pedestrian Deaths On Tampa Streets Leads To Crackdown On Jaywalkers, DUI And Crosswalk Violations

According to a national transportation study, Tampa Bay is ranked the second-most dangerous place in America for foot traffic. According to TampaBay.com, 19 of the 41 Tampa traffic deaths in 2009 were pedestrians. Now the Tampa Police are cracking down at two Tampa intersections looking for drunk drivers, pedestrians who jaywalk and cars that violate crosswalks.

While most of the pedestrian traffic deaths are the fault of the pedestrian, the Tampa Police are launching a two-day crackdown at Kennedy Blvd. and Florida Ave. and Kennedy Blvd. and North Blvd. The police say they will issue warnings but if warranted, traffic citations will be issued as well. The operation is separate from one the DUI unit is planning on conducting as well.…
