Plant City Florida is located in eastern Hillsborough County. Plant city is approximately 25 miles east of Tampa, immediately to the west of Lakeland. The recent population was near 30,000. Notorious for its annual Florida strawberry festival, Plant City is home to a courthouse on N Michigan Avenue. Plant City Florida has a police force that issues citations for unlawful speed, careless driving, reckless driving, and driving under the influence. The county of Hillsborough has recently approved funding for the construction of a new courthouse in downtown Plant City.
The State Attorney, under the guide of Mark Ober, has a division located within the Plant City courthouse. That office does not handle felony cases, only misdemeanors. Anyone charged with a felony, their case will be transferred to the downtown courthouse on Twiggs Street.
There are two county court judges operating out of the Plant City Courthouse. The criminal judge is Art McNeil and the civil judge is the Honorable Christine Vogel. One Judge is usually assigned to the criminal division while the other Judge is in charge of the civil division. Depending on the location of the citation or arrest, US 301 is typically used as the division mark. Anything ocurring east of 301 will be sent to the Plant City Courthouse.
